MOART Introduces Sustainability and ESG Compliance Practice

March 21, 2024
INSIGHT

MOART is launching a dedicated Sustainability and ESG Compliance Practice helping consumer brands meet the increasingly demanding environmental, social, and governance criteria that the largest United States retailers now apply across their vendor relationships. The practice operates across all MOART offices in coordination with the firm's broader retail compliance work.

The ESG context. The largest US retailers including Walmart, Target, Costco, Whole Foods, and Amazon have increasingly formalized ESG vendor criteria covering packaging sustainability, supply chain traceability, labor practices, and broader corporate governance standards. The compliance work required for brands to maintain placement at these retailers has shifted from being a periodic disclosure exercise to being a continuous operational requirement.

What the practice covers. The team leads engagements across packaging redesign for sustainability compliance, supply chain audit and traceability documentation, labor practice verification across the manufacturing footprint, and broader corporate governance documentation. The work spans both the proactive ESG positioning that strengthens a brand's vendor relationship and the reactive compliance work needed to respond to specific retailer requests.

The strategic positioning. The Sustainability and ESG Compliance Practice positions MOART to support clients across one of the most rapidly evolving dimensions of retailer relationship management.
